Pancake_Mile_race_to_happen_in_Harborough_The Pancake Mile will start and finish will be outside Gallone’s Ice Cream Parlour on Adam and Eve Street. The route is a mile long pavement run that leads back to the start point. The race will begin at 6pm.

On Shrove Tuesday, Market Harborough is set for an evening of pancake flipping. February 9th will be celebrated with a themed 1 mile run, the town’s first ever.

The event is open to all ages and standards. Participants will have the option of bring their own pancakes to flip whilst running the route, alternatively runners can also use the race as an attempt to get a personal best. After finishing, runners will receive a freshly made pancake, supplied by the race’s sponsor Gallone’s.

Co-organiser Brian Corcoran comments: “The Pancake Mile is going to be a great evening. Whilst we regularly hold events that are very competitive, due to its distance this one is suitable for everybody. Although it’s optional, we hope that a lot of runners take on the challenge of running the mile while flipping their pancake.”

Pancake Mile is the latest in a long line of events created by Race Harborough. In the past two years they have launched the Harborough Triathlon, Santa Run, Festival of Cycling, Tunnel Vision Night Run, and the Harborough Carnival Half Marathon and 10K.

Aldo Gallone, owner of Gallone’s Ice Cream, said “We’re proud to be sponsoring this run, it’ll be a great chance for Harborough residents to get together and cheer on the runners. Hopefully there aren’t too many pancakes spoilt by unsteady hands. If there are we will be at hand to supply a tasty pancake to all runners.”

It is hoped that the Pancake Mile will be a family friendly event suitable for all ages and running standards. Whilst some runners from Market Harborough may wish to set a personal best for the time, other will be happy to run along side their children to encourage them to take part in physical activity.
