The Market Harborough Building Society has announced that they will be the main sponsor for this year’s Carnival of Running, and will be supporting the carnival in a variety of ways, including helping with entries, distribution of running numbers and crewing a water station.

The event will form part of the town’s carnival on Saturday June 13th and is to be the largest running event that Market Harborough has ever seen.

The Carnival of Running will incorporate a Half Marathon, a 10k, a half marathon corporate relay, and a fun run for children. These events will help to raise money for The Squires Effect as well as other charities.

Chief Executive Mark Robinson comments, “When we heard that the event was taking place and that it was covering distances that would suit all ages and abilities in the community we were keen to get involved.”

In the past 6 months we have staged the Harborough Triathlon and the Santa Run.  “The race will start shortly before the carnival floats come through the town centre, so the hope is that crowds will have gathered to see the parade already and will cheer on the runners”, comments Brian Corcoran.  “After that the route takes in the picturesque nearby countryside, including Thorpe Langton.  The runners will finish at Symingtons Rec where the carnival parade ends, so again we are hoping for big crowds to cheer the runners home”.

“With last year’s triathlon around 65% of entrants had never taken part in a triathlon before, so we hope that lots of people from Harborough who have not taken part in a road running race will give it a try,” adds Brian.
