Tunnel Vision Night and Dawn Runs
…….is all over for 2017
A huge thank you to all the incredible volunteers that helped make it such a special event. Results and photos below.
We know that you love running in the dark. Some of you prefer it in the morning and others at night. Now you can do both. The popular Night Run starts at 7.30pm on Thursday 16th November 2017 and the Dawn Run at 6.30am on Friday 17th November. You can enter one or both of them. Both routes take in the very long and very dark Oxendon Tunnel. At 422m long, the old railway tunnel really is an imposing sight and pitch black. So we’ve decided to light it and provide a unique opportunity for you to run through it ….and back again. The Dawn Run has the added bonus of a sunrise to enjoy too.
As you know, November is a special period for the town with the month long Mo’ket Harborough campaign. In 2014 it raised approximately £16,000 and we at Race Harborough HQ, decided we wanted to do our bit. Tunnel Vision was born in 2015 and each year the event itself raises approximately £2000 for the campaign. We’re sure that many of you will be growing your own moustache as part of the campaign and this will be a great chance to show your off mo. There are a load of special prizes for fundraisers. Keep an eye out on the Facebook page for more details If you wish to donate online when you enter, it would be massively appreciated. Here’s a little bit about the two Mo’ket Harborough supported charities. http://www.moketharborough.com/supported-charities/
Tunnel Vision is an out and back, 5 mile running race. Long enough to be a challenge for quality athletes and short enough to be achievable for less experienced runners looking for a challenge. The entry fee is £15 for a single race and £25 for both. From that, a donation of £2.00 will go straight to the Mo’ket Harborough campaign A discount of £1.00 is available to members of affiliated running, cycling, swimming and triathlon clubs. Simply enter your club name to receive the discount when you checkout. When you complete the Night Run you will be presented with a race momento. At the turnaround point, you will also receive a funky Hawaiian Lei Garland for you to wear ready for your finish line photo. Hot brew and biscuits included in your entry fee. After the Dawn Run you will a delicious glass of orange juice, a croissant and of course a momento.
Davis Optometrists are proud to be supporting the local community and sponsoring the Tunnel Vision runs. Practice Manager, Lynn Carson, says: “We are delighted to be supporting this event for a second year and two very worthwhile causes.” Davis are also inviting entrants the opportunity to book an eye test with them and receive £25 off the price of eyewear upon production of a confirmation email, within 6 months of the race. So there are plenty of incentives to join in the fun, and lots of time for training – we’ll see you at the finish line! http://www.davisopticians.co.uk/
Although the tunnel will be lit, it is still a good idea to bring a head torch. In fact, bring as many neon, flashy, glowy things as you own. We have a quality torch available for the bargain price of £8.99. Please see technical specs etc. here: https://www.torchdirect.co.uk/coast-led-head-torch/coast-fl14-dual-colour-led-head-torch.html Our friends at Duncan Murray Wines in association with the Box Steam Brewery bring you a great post race recovery option. A delicious selection of quality bottled ales. http://boxsteambrewery.com/ The selection includes not only a beer so good they named a night run after it (not really!), Tunnel Vision (light amber) but also Piston Broke (golden ale), Funnel Blower (porter), Derail Ale (zesty pale ale) and the latest offering Golden Bolt (soft pale ale). These usually retail at £3ish but we can offer them with a 20% discount at £2.40. These must be pre-ordered, when you enter. There will not be any extras sold on the night. Please tell us exactly which beers you would like or if you are happy with a selection. We look forward to seeing you on the night of the 16th and on the morning of the 17th. Due to the nature of the narrow track, this year we have decided that dogs on leads will only be allowed to take part in the Dawn Run. I’m sure you understand. Ages 14 years and up only please. Entries can be transferred to another runner up to the Monday before the race. You can do this manually by logging in to the system. After this date, transfers will not be accepted.
