Thursday 17th & Friday 18th November 2016
Well! That’s us all done for another year.
Thanks to all the people that made it such a success, volunteers and runners alike.
Welcome to the Tunnel Vision Night and Dawn Runs
We know that you love running in the dark. Some of you prefer it in the morning and others at night. Now you can do both.
So when is it?!
The popular Night Run starts at 7.30pm on Thursday 17th November and the new Dawn Run on Friday 18th November.
You can enter one or both of them. Both routes take in the very long and very dark Oxendon Tunnel. At 422m long, the old railway tunnel really is an imposing sight and pitch black. So we’ve decided to light it and provide a unique opportunity for you to run through it…and back again. The Dawn Run has the added bonus of a sunrise to enjoy too.
The entry fee is £15 for a single race and £20 for both. From that, a donation of £2.00 will go straight to the Mo’ket Harborough. A discount of £1.00 is available to members of affiliated running and triathlon clubs and registered parkrunners. Simply enter your club name or barcode to receive the discount when you checkout. Watch this space, entries opening end of July!
As you know, November is a special period for the town with the month long Mo’Ket Harborough campaign. In 2014 it raised approximately £16,000 and we at Race Harborough HQ decided we wanted to do our bit. Tunnel Vision was born in 2015 and the event itself raised approximately £1,500 for the campaign.
Movember do wonderful things to raise money and awareness for men’s health and Mo’Ket Harborough continue to support the charity with moustache growing efforts and the subsequent money raised through their website uk.movember.com This year however they are supporting a few charities closer to home. Using the funds raised through Mo’ket Harborough events during Movember, they are looking to support three more charities that undertake work locally and have an association with men’s health. The money raised during local events will then be split equally between the charities.
But first, they need to take nominations to create a shortlist and decide on the three charities to support. Please fill in the form below if you’d like to nominate a charity that supports men’s health. We will need your details, information about the charity and a few words explaining the charity’s association with men’s health and why they should be the shortlisted charity for this year. If you are nominating on behalf of a charity, please ensure you have permission from the charity to do so. MoHarb Charity Nominations 2016 or for those of you fundraising. MoHarb Sponsor Form
Finish Line – Strike a Mo’se
When you complete the Night Run you will be presented with a Mo’Ket Harborough Tunnel Vision momento and a cup of delicious fresh vegetable soup. At the turnaround point you will also receive a glow in the dark pair of glasses for you to wear ready for your finish line photo. There will be trophies awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers. After the Dawn Run, a fresh glass of orange juice will be on offer.
We are sure that many of you will be growing your own moustache as part of the campaign and this will be a great chance to show off your Mo’. There are heaps of special prizes for the fundraisers amongst you. Keep an eye out on the Facebook page for more details.
As well as the delicious soup, our friends at Duncan Murray Wines in association with the Box Steam Brewery bring you another post race recovery option. A delicious selection of quality bottled beers.
This selection includes Tunnel Vision, Piston Broke, Funnel Blower and Derail Ale. These usually retail at £2.89 but we can offer them with a 20% discount at £2.30. these must be pre-ordered when you enter. There will not be any extras sold on the night. Please tell us exactly what beers you would like or if you are happy with a selection.
A pair of Glasses?!
Davis Optometrists are proud to be supporting the local community and sponsoring the Tunnel Vision night run. Practice Manager, Lynn Carson, says: “We are delighted to be supporting this very worthwhile cause and happy to be providing hot soup at the finish line, which I’m sure will be most welcomed by the runners!” Davis are also inviting entrants the opportunity to book an eye test with them and receive £25 off the price of eyewear upon production of a confirmation email, within 6 months of the race. “So there are plenty of incentives to join in the fun, and lots of time for training – we’ll see you at the finish line”!
What to bring
Although the tunnel will be lit, it is still a good idea to bring a head torch. In fact, bring as many neon, flashy, glow in the dark things as you own! We do have a basic head torch available to buy when you enter priced at £5.
Dogs are welcome but they must be on a lead, under control and only one person per dog. Pushchairs are also welcome.
The Venue & Route
Tunnel Vision is an out and back, 5 mile running race. Long enough to be a challenge for quality athletes and short enough to be achievable for less experienced runners looking for a challenge.
The route starts approx. ½ mile down from the entrance to the Brampton Valley Way off Northampton Road via Scotland Road, Market Harborough, LE16 9HD.
At the half way point, all runners will be given a fluro item to prove that they have run the full distance. You will need to show this at the end of the race in order to receive your official time and free goodies. Runners will also receive a race position and a time from our professional time keepers. These will be published on this website within 24 hours.
If you live in Market Harborough, you may find is easiest to get to the start by foot to help with your warm up.
Parking is free at the nearby leisure centre and surrounding car parks. From here, walk along Northampton Road, passing the cemetery. Opposite Protheroes / Jet petrol station there is a safe crossing place, do so here and turn the right corner onto Braybrooke Road. The start of the Brampton Valley Way begins here where you will be signposted to the race start.
From the centre of town, head along the Northampton Road out of town. Once you get to the crossing before the Protheroes and Jet petrol station you have reached the start. Turn into Braybrooke Road onto the Brampton Valley Way and you will be signposted to the race start.
You can read more about the history of the Brampton Valley Way here.
We look forward to seeing you on the night of the 17th and on the morning of the 18th.
