1 Mile Fun Run
This is on the Robert Smyth Academy field before the main races start. All proceeds to Home Start.
This is new for 2018. It starts at RSA with the 10K and HM runners and follows the Carnival procession route until Mill Hill Road where the route heads towards the finish at Symington Rec.
This takes in the Carnival procession route and the village of Great Bowden before heading up Burnmill Road and down to the finish.
This follows the same route as the 10K but heads out for a rural section of approximately 7 miles before returning for the Burnmill climb and home.
Race start 10.30-10.45am at The Robert Smyth Academy, Burnmill Road, LE16 7JG.
Finish Line location: Symington’s Recreation Ground off St Mary’s Road, Market Harborough
This event takes place on the same day as and in conjunction with, the Market Harborough Carnival. We are proud that the event is sponsored by the Market Harborough Building Society.
The route has something for everyone with some crowd-lined closed roads, an idyllic rural village section through Great Bowden, Welham and Thorpe Langton and a spectacular finish at the Carnival Show Ground. Here you will be greeted by approximately 5000 cheering supporters.
Runners will benefit from:
- Chip timing
- Medal and T-shirt
- Free photos
Our unique post-race zone is metres away situated in The Training Shed. Here you will be welcomed by the friendly staff who will offer you the following:
- Free post race massage (your legs will thank you for it!)
- Stretching area with expert supervision and advice
- Opportunity to be photographed with your run time wearing your finishers medal
- Goody bag area/t-shirt collection
The full prize schedule will be announced in the Race Pack 2018 when it is published. There will be AG trophies in the 5K, 10K and HM races as well as trophies and prizes for the Top 3 in each event.
Supporting local charities is an important part of everything that we do. The Squires Effect have been the official charity partner for this event since it started in 2015. Each year we have made a donation of £2000-£2500 to thank them for the work that they do in our community. Please donate when you enter or fundraise directly for them if you are able.
If you are running for your own selected charity there are numerous ways to do this, the first would be to notify the particular charity that you intend to run and fundraise for. You can then start getting sponsors or set up your own personal JustGiving or VirginMoneyGiving page to do so online.
The Training Shed, Market Harborough have produced some excellent free training plans to support you in your journey. Contact them directly and they’ll send them over.
We are also putting on a free social run that gives you an opportunity to experience the 10K route. Meet at The Training Shed on Thursday 17th May at 6.30pm. There will be lead and tail runners so no one will get left behind.
Hydration and Nutrition
There will be Clif Shotblox (an energy gel) and Nuun electrolyte available on the HM routes at approximately 6 and 9 miles.
There will be water at 3 miles (all routes) and at the foot of Burnmill Hill which is approximately 5 miles for the 10K route and 11 miles for the HM route.
We would like the whole event to be as a family friendly as possible. Just before the start of the main event, we are hosting a 1 mile family fun run. If you are competing in the main event, why not use this as a warm up with all the family? We will reward all runners with a medal and fruit! Feel free wear your most colourful fancy dress
We are grateful to Home-Start South Leicestershire who are our Charity Partner again for 2018 and will be on hand organising you all and welcoming donations on the day. Donate here! or download the sponsorship form. All entry fees go directly to Home Start.
