Harborough Santa Run 2021

It’s back!!!!

What better way to get warmed up for the festive period than a run or walk in a beautiful local park with a load of people dressed like Santa!

  • The run will take place in Welland Park, Market Harborough on 19th December at 2pm starting by the café in the park.
  • Registration will be outside the café and will open from 12pm where you will collect your race number and your Santa suit. There will be another chance to register at Snap Fitness on the evening of Wednesday 15th December 5-6.30pm.
  • There are two run distances available, the 5k and 2k.

Either distance can be completed by adults or children. We ask that under 11’s are accompanied by an adult at all times. Dog walkers with dogs on leads are also welcome.

Twelve Days of Christmas Virtual Challenge

We are delighted to invite you to get involved in (drum roll)………….. The 12 Days of Christmas.

Tradition dictates that this will start on 25th December 2021 and finish on the 5th January 2022.

The challenge is to complete a 12 day run and/or walk streak starting with 1 km or mile on Christmas Day, 2 kms or miles on Boxing Day up to 12 km or miles on the 5th January. This will be a total of 78km or miles over the 12 days.

It is entirely up to you whether you want to work in km’s or miles.

If you are prone to injury when you do too much or if you want a bit more flexibility to organise family time, you can also do the challenge in a slightly different format. You still need to do the 12 day streak but you decide when you want to do each run. This means you could alternate between longer and shorter runs as long as you keep a record of which ones you’ve done. If you’re feeling lucky, why not put numbers 1-12 in a hat and pick one at random each day?! It’s your challenge, so choose a format that will work for you and commit to it.

When you’re done, let us know and we’ll send out your medal.

Hopefully this will give you something to look forward to over the festive period and prepare you for a solid Winter of running.

Our chosen charity for the event is the Squires Effect. They do some excellent work in and around the local area. It would be great if everyone could raise a little bit of sponsorship or donate when entering. Either way, it would be great if everyone could try to contribute £10. There are a number of ways to collect sponsorship money. You can set up an online fundraising account such as https://www.justgiving.com/ or use a sponsor form. Forms can be found on the Race Harborough website.

The route

The route starts on the drive that is the entrance to the park from Welland Park Rooad. Heading towards the kids playground, you will pass the award winning rose garden. When you reach the big stone by the entrance to the playground, you have reached the start of the loop. The clockwise loop will be completed once if you are doing 2K and 3 times for the 5k. After your loops you will return to the café. The loop goes right around the outskirts of the park. All of the course will be well signed and marshalled. It will be impossible to get lost!

On the day

The HFM team will be in attendance with their usual blend of music and chatter.

As a bonus, we will have a special guest entering the race…..the Christmas pudding.  If a runner beats the Christmas pudding home, they will win £100 for the charity of their choice.

It’s not only you that has an excuse to get dressed up, why not bring along your furry friends and dress them up too! Prize for the best dressed dog awarded by Paws 4 Walking.

Refreshments will be available at the Welland Park Cafe. Please bring along any spare change, the team from The Squires Effect will be running a tombola and other fun things to donate to. All proceeds to the charity. For the children there will be a very friendly Elf handing out festive treats, we can’t wait!
